Banki is a city located in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh. The city is sited at a distance of 594 km away from the national capital Delhi, 29 km away from the state capital Lucknow, 1 km away from its district Headquarters Barabanki and 4 km away from its Tehisl Headquarters Nawabganj. People of all religion reside in the city out of which Hindus and Muslims were almost equally majority in population. The locals in the city speak Hindi, Urdu and Awadhi. The city comes under Awadh region of Uttar Pradesh.

The city is surrounded by Barabanki Tehsil in the East, Harakh Tehsil in the South, Dewa Tehsil in the North and Masauli Tehsil in the East. The city is sited close to the border of Barabanki district which makes Banki close to its neighbouring Lucknow district towards its west. The city has numerous small talaab or ponds in its grounds towards its south. Summers are very hot and winters are cool in the city.
